Essay #2 Prompt [Persuasive Essay]

We have read three essays by authors whose voices have been historically marginalized:

– Gloria Anzaldúa (Latina)

– Amy Tan (Chinese-American)

– Frederick Douglass (African-American)

You will write a short, thesis driven essay that will answer this question, is there value in studying these writers?

Your answer should incorporate direct evidence from the source, then, engage in a critical discussion. The most important aspect of a thesis driven essay is answering the question, why? If you feel there is no value in studying these writers, explain why. If you feel there is value, explain why. Think about what was valuable to you from the assigned readings for this prompt.

You must engage with at least two of the essays written by theaforementioned authors, however, you may choose to engage with any of the other readings assigned as well. You should examine specific portions of the essays and add your own detailed critical analysis. You are welcome to utilize your own personal experience in this essay as well, should it be applicable.

note: your personal experience may utilize a first person voice to relate to your persuasive argument, however, you must not rely on first person. I need to see you establish and maintain a third person academic voice throughout the paper. I want to celebrate your experiential voice, but I also need to evaluate your ability to write academically and formally. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have regarding this issue.
