As the new HR manager of a jewelry company, you have put together
some preliminary reports for the CEO. One of the reports you compiled
focuses on employee turnover. The jewelry company is an organization
with aggressive expansion goals. In the last 2 years, the company has
continually hired new employees, yet it has not achieved the staffing
levels it desired. The company knew that some employees had left the
organization, but turnover rates have not been formally tracked.

After your preliminary fact-finding, you were surprised to discover
that the turnover rate for the past year was 38%. You know the CEO will
not be pleased with this turnover rate, and you have made the decision
to prepare yourself more before presenting the report to the CEO.
Turnover presents a significant cost for an organization, so you
recognize that this will be an opportunity for you to demonstrate how
you can partner with the executive team to turn this situation around
and help the company be more competitive. Prepare a short presentation
for the CEO on the situation and possible reasons as to why employees
are leaving at such a high rate.

As you are preparing your presentation, consider the following:

  • In detail, discuss several of the reasons why employees tend to leave organizations.
  • You plan to present the financial impact to the CEO to get a
real sense of the significance of the situation. What factors will you
consider in preparing this financial estimate? For this assignment, you
are not required to determine the actual dollar figure, but instead, you
are to consider what would contribute to the cost of turnover.
  • Being proactive, what measures can be taken to assess the morale of current employees, and how likely they are to leave or stay?
  • What process do you recommend for partnering with the management team to reduce turnover in the upcoming years?
  • As you consider your role, how will you position this to the CEO
to demonstrate the value you can bring to addressing this problem?

article ‘ helping world majority students make sense W r i t i n g

In
the article ‘Helping world majority students make sense of university
expectations’, the author tries to prove that even though it is deemed
necessary to make changes in the school education system, it is quite hard to
make such adjustments, but provides better strategies on the subject. The
author argues that it is highly difficult for these institutions to change
their standards as well as the entire instruction framework for the purpose of
making it easier for the foreign students taking courses in the institution.

Helen Fox states that “while cultural collisions always have the
potential of producing shock or distaste, they also have inherent in them the
power to enrich the way both the world majority and the western minority
understand and experience the world” (129). The author’s sentiments is that
even though the foreign students might be at first shocked about their new
environment ,they do have the ability to change their new environment to a
place that more acceptable to foreign students ‘believes and culture. Helen Fox
is surly right about how foreign students tend to play an important role
towards bringing a transformation to the new institutional culture full of
diversity. As a Saudi student in the United States I think as foreign students
in the United States we change how Americans think about our countries and
present the correct perception. For example, when I was in ESL program at
Gonzaga Unifersity ,Spokane, one day the teacher ask us to talk with business
students who have to do a research about the economy in different countries. So
they starting ask me with my classmate who also from Saudi Arabia about so
products that Saudi Arabia do. But I was surprise that some of them think that
Dubai which is part of United Arab Emirates is part of our country. What we did
is explained that. Although what we did is simple and it might do not have that
meaning of changing the community but I believe that how it is the starting of
how forging student able to change their new community.

Helen Fox in another paragraph states that “becoming aware of
richness of each student’s background, feeling how it is to think differently,
surely this is impossible to do for each of the hundreds of the students we see
each year” (129). What the author tries to present here is that despite the
need to have a diversified environment that requires all students to be given
individual attention, it is impossible to accomplish that every year for every
student. I agree with the author in the sense that it would be tedious to get
to know the students individually and get them acquainted with the system. In a
person level, I think it is really important to give students who came from
different background give them individual attention to talk about what
difficulties that they face and what different in my culture then US. When I
was in ESL program, I really enjoyed who teachers really want to hear from us
international students about our cultures, believes and styles. For example, I
remember having a conversation with my writing teacher who writing styles is
different between United States and Saudi Arabia the teacher enjoy hear from
student about that subject which I consider as a respect and professional to us
as international students.

The author further states that “But the concept of individual is
different in our society than it is in his. In our culture, children are
trained to think of themselves as separate individuals from the time they are
born” (123). The author tries to insinuate that the instructors should not
expect the majority students to grasp the concept of individualism immediately
they join the institution. I agree with the author as his concept tries to
prove the need for the instructors to understand different student abilities
and needs. Example

Helen Fox further states that “talking about analysis with world
majority students always involves talking about the cultural expectations”
(125). The author in this case tries to communicate that it is not possible to
have a conversation about analysis or rather critical analysis with the
majority students without having to incorporate aspects of their cultural
expectations. I concur with the author in the sense that critical thinking has
strong components and as such, it is important to establish the cultural
expectations for better understanding.

Helen Fox further states that “It means making overt connections
within and between sentences and paragraphs and finding words that show exact
relationships between ideas, as is required in a low-context culture” (125). In
this case, the author has tried to show the need to create an understanding of
various aspects of domestic culture to make it easy for the majority students
to adopt differently. I further concur with the line of thought with the
understanding that it is quite hard for someone from a different culture to
fully understand critical analysis. Example

Lastly, Helen Fox states that “But students cannot wait for change.
They are here, trying to get along in the system, and they know they need to
understand it in order to succeed”. The author in this case tries to state that
the students getting into these institutions are aware of the change ahead of
them and need to find a way to understand it. I partially agree with the
statement since it makes sense that majority students know they are to
experience an unfamiliar system and hence should be prepared for it. On the
other hand, these students tend to have a hard time adapting to different
systems, and some take a long time to adjust to the system. Example

“Windy City Watches” is a men’s jewelry store that is located in downtown Chicago, IL. Fortunately, business is booming and Wally, the proprietor, needs to order a large quantity of Rolek watches (which he sells for $50 apiece) because his stock is almost depleted. Therefore, he calls Randy Rolek, a wholesaler located in Milwaukee, WI, who supplies retailers with Roleks.

Wally and Randy discuss terms on the phone for a while. Eventually, Wally offers to purchase 100 watches for a total price of $2,500. Randy replies “Okay, you’ve got yourself a deal. Listen, I’m going to send you an order form to sign. Send it back to me, and I’ll ship the watches.”

Randy then faxes Wally a form which says: “I, Wally, agree to purchase Rolek watches from Randy for $25 per watch.” Wally signs the form and mails it back to Randy. Randy receives the signed form two days later.

The following week, Randy sends Wally a package with 50 watches and a note that says:

“Hi Wally: Here are 50 of the watches we discussed last week. I’ll have the remaining 50 to you within a few days. In the meantime, I’m enclosing my bill. [signed] Randy”

Enclosed in the package is a bill for $2,500 for 100 watches. Unfortunately, by this time, Wally had changed his mind about buying the watches, as he figured that he’d rather sell Rolexes. He therefore called up Randy and said:

“Listen, Randy, I’m sorry, but I changed my mind about the whole business. I’ll send you back your watches and I’ll even reimburse your shipping expenses, but I can’t pay for the watches.”

Randy sues Wally to enforce the original agreement. Wally argues that under the UCC Statute of Frauds, this agreement is unenforceable because it was never put into writing. Randy argues that:

1) Wally signed the order form; so the contract was in writing; and

2) In any case, the UCC Statute of Frauds was satisfied by performance when Randy sent over the watches.

Who is correct? Explain, in 3-5 paragraphs, relying solely on the UCC Statute of Frauds and the materials about the Statute of Frauds you learned during your NPC Contracts course. Case law is not necessary for this assignment. An IRAC-based essay is also not necessary.

word ‘ art ’ W r i t i n g

word ‘ art ’ W r i t i n g

I noticed the poem by Robert Francis to be unordinary and confusing. I could notice that it is about baseball sport because of the title, and after a few words like ‘batter’ and ‘throw.’ My imagination of the dramatic scene is that one of the fans is telling others about this pitcher method of play. Thus, this poem is majorly about a pitcher and his unique style of pitching and deceiving the batter. The latter makes use of the first line, “His art is eccentricity, his aim.” The word ‘art’ in this line and specifically in this scenario, pitching is an art done by the pitcher. The word eccentric refers to the fact that every good pitcher should deceive the batter, making it harder for him to hit. In this poem, the pitcher is imagined to be like an artist.

Additionally, the author uses the fourth line, ‘His technique to vary the avoidance’ to demonstrate the unique style or technique to deceive the batter and mislead the crowd. The latter writes the last line of the poem that says, ‘”making the batter understand too late,’ implying that the pitcher attempts to trick the batter until after the pitch. Generally, the pitcher is defined as a person who wants the batter understand but just a little too late. The poem by Francis uses imagery, irony, figures of speech, and diction to convey the subtle interaction between a batter and the pitcher in the baseball sport. All good pitchers desire to hit that moving edge. Their primary purpose is to make the batter swing a poor pitch or even not swing at all. In summary, the poem illustrates how pitcher’s pitches are an intentional deception

Exa

I agree with you that the poem could be advice to the reader to deal with their lives and the lives of others. In addition, it also makes a good contribution as you said, to the art of promoting the words required alone to be a good writer or speaker.

You have made a good point in what the writer needs, as he must be sympathetic in communicating the message in a way that the reader can view as a personal affiliation. The poem serves the various readers in their own ways, such as inspiration, intended for inclusion, and many other types of understanding.

I was impressed by the way you relate the poem to real life, and how the poem is understood by each reader. You have described the parts of the poem well and made it clear to the reader. Each of us has a different point of view and your outlook for this poem, and its written art was impressive.
