When it comes to who should be responsible for early care and education, I would have to say I lean more towards it being a societal responsibility. I know that deciding to put your child into early education is a personal choice, so you would lean towards saying that it should be a family responsibility. However, at the same time, no child should be denied the option of getting this advantage because their family cannot afford it. “The primary one is to provide education for children-to support their learning, to stimulate development in all areas, and to prepare them for success in the next level of schooling” (Feeney, Moravcik, & Nolte, 2016, p. 36). How can we as a community not want this for each and every child? We should want the children in our community to be well educated, and have every chance for that possible, because they are our future.
I do think that my family and friends would agree with my view on this matter. There are many teachers, and members of education in my family. I do think that they would agree for it to be a societal responsibility so that all children have the equal opportunity to a great education.
I think policy makers should try to make early care and education more affordable and accessible to all. “Because there is no one system for financing and delivering child care, the availability and quality of programs varies greatly from community to community and from state to state” (Feeney, Moravcik, & Nolte, 2016, p. 39). I know that it’s not an easy thing to ask for, but it would be very beneficial to those who can’t afford it and don’t even bother to try. It would be awesome to be able to have it available to all children so that they can get the same chance at an adequate education, not based on financial status or anything else.
